NB: The only thing I disagree with in this otherwise courageous statement is this: “Our governments’ current policies weaken their moral standing and undermine their ability to stand up for freedom, justice, and human rights globally.” I’ve commented on these issues many times but readers could see this and this. The moral standing of the western establishments never amounted to much – remember colonialism? The Cold War made it possible for them to perch themselves on anthills of moral superiority. With the casualties of Israel’s American-enabled massacre of Palestinians approaching 100,000 dead and wounded, including thousands of children; the term ‘moral standing’ is beyond ridiculous.
It’s over, ladies and gentlemen. The wests’ talk of freedom and democracy and ‘humanitarian’ warfare are so much sand in our mouths. It’s over, destroyed forever by their rulers’ (barring honourable exceptions) relentless and unredeemable racism. Many others have come to the same conclusion. Palestinian lives count for nothing; they are just so much biomass standing in the way of your colonial ambition and conceit.
This is the bifurcation point of the century. All those who value liberty and work for the end of permanent warfare should be very clear – we are on our own. We cannot align ourselves with countries, power blocs, ideological doctrines of left or right, but simply with human decency, avoidance of ethnic or religious bias, and non-dogmatic thought. Nation-states and grand ideological postures are institutional and intellectual crucibles of murder and mayhem. Pathological lunatics are running the asylum. We had better wake up. DS

More than 800 officials from the United States and Europe have signed a scathing criticism of Western policy towards Israel and Gaza, accusing their governments of possible complicity in war crimes. In a statement obtained by CNN, the officials say there is a “plausible risk that our governments’ policies are contributing to grave violations of international humanitarian law, war crimes and even ethnic cleansing or genocide.”
They accuse their governments of failing to hold Israel to the same standards they apply to other countries and weakening their own “moral standing” in the world. Among them are around 80 United States officials and diplomats, a source told CNN.
In an unprecedented display of coordinated dissent since Israel’s war against Hamas began nearly four months ago, the signatories call on their governments to “use all leverage” to secure a ceasefire and to stop saying that there is a “a strategic and defensible rationale behind the Israeli operation.”…
