Trump is no outlaw, just a grubby, sad criminal

NB: Sure, that’s what Trump is, a failing mafiosi. Meanwhile Biden has just completed abetting the murder of over 128,000 Palestinians (killed, maimed or missing), which includes over 10,000 murdered children. Many children who are still alive are amputees, (after operations conducted without anaesthesia); traumatised for life, and orphaned. Had a tiny fraction of these figures been about white Americans, we need not guess what the Western media would have said. Think of it: all the grief we have seen, even over a single loss of a loved one, a close friend, an ageing parent, let alone a child – all that grief, multiplied a hundred thousand times. The indescribable horror you must feel when you know they have been murdered with rage and with impunity before the eyes of the entire world. Why do any Israeli and Western leaders even think there will be a lasting solution after all this brutal carnage? Consult your consciences if you have any left, and repent.

And yes, this is as true for the Israeli families of victims and hostages as for the Palestinians. But do all the talking heads and heads of government recall that three quarters of a million Palestinians were violently uprooted from their homes and villages in 1948? And that the people of the West Bank and Gaza have lived as stateless people under occupation for fifty seven years?

Trump is a racist with the KKK stamped all over his forehead. Biden flies the flag of freedom and democracy; whilst enabling genocide (here is the text of the UN resolution on genocide). The American establishment is racist, militarist and brutal. American empire is imploding by the day: after instigating coups around the world for eight decades, it can’t prevent a coup inside God’s own country. Their only redeeming feature is the moral integrity of their sagacious intellectuals, and the rebels among their young, whom I salute. Here’s to your democratic choice between two decrepit gangsters. I was asked a few times by people over Memorial Day weekend what I thought would happen in Donald Trump’s criminal trial for fraud in Manhattan. I expressed cautious optimism that he would be convicted, pointing out that the prosecution presented an overwhelming amount of evidence while the defense acted like a bunch of clowns. Folks reacted with surprise to this prediction. They’ve been burned too many times, watching Trump wriggle away from consequences for a dizzying number of crimes, including his efforts to overthrow democracy. Thursday, however, a ray of hope opened up as Trump was found guilty on 34 state felony charges.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg and lead prosecutor Joshua Steinglass had two advantages over others who have tried to hold Trump accountable. First, there are no powerful Republicans swooping in to save Trump from consequences in New York. There are no corrupt Federalist judges, like Aileen Cannon or the Supreme Court Six, finding ways to delay Trump’s federal trials indefinitely. No Senate Republicans to stop Trump from being rightfully convicted after his impeachment in the House of Representatives. No wealthy donors to step in and pay his civil judgments, whether for his extensive business fraud or his sexual assault of E. Jean Carroll. Second, Trump was facing a jury of his peers. I had some faith that ordinary people, when faced with inescapable evidence of Trump’s criminality, would suck it up and do their civic duty. Unlike, say, all the people who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution but decided to protect the leader of the GOP instead….
