After more than 15 months of war, a ceasefire deal agreed between Israel and Hamas came into effect on January 19. The head of the Gaza Government Information Office told a news conference earlier today that the bodies of 76 percent of the Palestinians killed in the conflict have been recovered and brought to medical centres. However, at least 14,222 people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescuers. The updated death toll from Israel’s war on the besieged enclave reaches 61,709, having added thousands who are missing and now presumed dead.

During the war, the Israeli Defense Forces (self-anointed ‘most moral Army in the world’) bombed hospitals, designated ‘safe’ areas, schools, entire university campuses, free kitchens and their workers, and refugee settlements.

As for accusing others of terrorism, here is data from a well-researched book on America’s violent subversion of democracy in countries all over the globe since 1945. It’s written by an intrepid American historian, Alfred McCoy. This is from the Chapter on Pax Americana:

‘Between 1945 and 2000, the US intervened in 81 consequential elections worldwide, including eight times in Italy, five in Japan, and many more in Latin America. Between 1958 and 1975, military
coups, many of them American-sponsored, changed governments in three dozen nations – a quarter of the world’s sovereign states – fostering a distinct “reverse wave” in the global trend toward democracy.
During the first decades of the Cold War, a national leader critical of America could face a CIA-sponsored coup that left him locked up for life (Iran), forced into exile (Guatemala), tortured to death (Congo), or left
murdered on the capital’s streets (South Vietnam). Apart from coups, which were often difficult to organize, the agency attempted assassinations, which usually failed (Congo, Cuba) but sometimes hit the mark (Dominican Republic). More than any other aspect of foreign policy, those secret CIA operations clearly violated the national sovereignty assured in the UN Charter, lending an irresolvable ambiguity to the US exercise of global power.‘

America has participated in, enabled or attempted political assassinations in Iran, Chile, Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina, Guatemala, Cuba and Bangladesh, to name but a few countries.
