The Election Commission of India tried to lock the new Bihar voter list away from scrutiny. Collaborating with a team of independent data analysts, we broke the lock. Guess what we found. More than 5,000 double and dubious voters from Uttar Pradesh have made it into ECI’s voter list for a Bihar constituency.
Thousands on the new voter list of Valmikinagar in Bihar match the credentials of voters in Uttar Pradesh. ECI has listed them with different EPIC numbers in the two states, which is illegal. Our investigation, requiring dozens of people and journalists to collaborate, provides the first hard evidence that ECI’s Special Intensive Revision of Bihar’s voter roll has allowed fake, dubious and doubtful voters in. Our analysis also shows it is now too late for ECI to weed them out. Its botched up and hurried revision of the voter database from scratch in a terribly short time has brought us to this turn.
My colleagues Ayushi Kar, Harshitha Manwani and Gayatri Sapru investigated the story. Our collaborating data analysts would like to stay unnamed. Am sure you understand why. Read our latest investigation of the Electoral Roll Project:
