A Post-Course Update from the fourth month of the Pagdandi Fellowship 2025-26

As the last of this year’s monsoon rains finally came to a halt and with the cold beginning to set in, we headed for the Narmada Valley, the final location of the Pagdandi Fellowship. We reached Jeevika Ashram in Indrana, a village on the banks of the Hiran Nadi and surrounded on three sides by the Vindhyas. Our arrival coincided with the Tulsi-Vivah celebration on the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi of the Kartik month, which marks the dev-uthani or the awakening of Lord Vishnu from his four-month slumber.

इस साल की लंबी वर्षा ऋतु की अंतिम बरसात पड़ रही थी और ठंड के आसार शुरू हो गए थे, और हम पगडंडी फेलोशिप के आखिरी पड़ाव के लिए नर्मदा घाटी की ओर निकल दिए। हिरन नदी के किनारे बसे और तीन तरफ से विंध्य पहाड़ों से घिरे इंद्राना गांव में हम जीविका आश्रम पहुंचे। हमारा वहाँ पहुंचना कार्तिक महीने के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी को तुलसी-विवाह के उत्सव के साथ हुआ, जो देव-उठनी या भगवान विष्णु के चार महीने की नींद से जागने का उत्सव है।

After two weeks of spending time at the Ashram, we hosted the Nature, Culture and Economy course from 14th to 23rd November 2025. Twenty four participants joined us from all over the country to spend ten days for an immersive learning experience. There were friends who joined from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, UP, and MP. There were professors, film makers, NGO professionals, public policy professionals, an engineer, a yoga teacher, a software professional who has moved from a big city to a small village, and a number of students—of history, fine arts, music and permaculture. This diverse group consisted of people aged between twenty and fifty-five, with the special exception of our youngest participant till date—a delightful eight month old!

आश्रम में दो हफ़्ते समय बिताने के बाद हम ने 14 से 23 नवंबर 2025 के बीच प्रकृति समाज और अर्थव्यवस्था पाठ्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। पूरे देश से चौबीस लोग दस दिनों के लिए इस पाठ्यक्रम में भाग लेने के लिए हमारे साथ जुड़े। इनमें राजस्थान, छत्तीसगढ़, कर्नाटक, महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात, दिल्ली, उत्तर प्रदेश और मध्य प्रदेश से दोस्त शामिल थे। इनमें प्रोफ़ेसर, फ़िल्म बनाने वाले, NGO प्रोफ़ेशनल, पब्लिक पॉलिसी प्रोफ़ेशनल, एक इंजीनियर, एक योगा टीचर, एक सॉफ़्टवेयर प्रोफ़ेशनल जो एक बड़े शहर से एक छोटे गाँव में बस गए हैं, और कई विद्यार्थी थे—इतिहास, कला, संगीत और जैविक खेती के विषयों से। इस विविध समूह में बीस से पचपन साल की उम्र के लोग थे, जिसमें हमारी अब तक के सबसे छोटी भागीदार —एक खुशमिजाज आठ महीने की बच्ची भी शामिल थी!…..
