NB: The Chief Justice of India has declared he has no time to waste on video evidence of police brutality in Delhi; nor on considering the pleas of the student movement. At least fifteen major competitive examinations have been cancelled and re-held since 2022, affecting millions of students, causing massive mental stress and financial hardship. Student suicides have doubled between 2015 and 2025; with a significant percentage due to exam-related stress. This years’ NEET cancellation has resulted in 22 suicides. Why is it a waste of time to look at evidence of police brutality vented upon thousands of young Indians affected by the never-ending corruption of the examination system?
Whose time has been wasted? Does our ruling establishment even think about the horrible tragedy of young persons taking their own lives? This poem by Bertold Brecht after the East German government crushed a workers protest in Berlin in 1953 might be relevant:
After the uprising of the 17th June
The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

July 20, 2026 will be remembered as a turning point in the Indian peoples struggle to preserve their democracy from the tyranny of the totalitarian BJP/RSS government. In the vanguard were students and young protestors; some of them accompanied by their parents. At least one lac protestors were involved yesterday. People from all walks of life. The attack on them was vicious and brutal, they were beated with lathis, mysterious men in plain clothes assisted uniformed policemen in assaulting unarmed teenagers and twenty-somethings asking for nothing but accountability from an education ministry which has repeatedly failed to conduct fair examinations.
22 young aspirants committed suicide on account of the latest ‘paper leak’ – yet this shameless government failed to even express remorse for these innocent victims of a corrupt system. The number of suicides over five years is reported to be over 90. That the leaks are carefully planned commercial operations; and the guilty rarely caught and punished only adds to the desperation and anger of the young. These are people who were small children when the BJP government came to power, they know nothing of previous governments – all they have heard is about the greatness of our Prime Minister.
The dirtiest kind of politics is to stir up inter-community and inter-caste hatred. Communalism of each and every kind is destructive of human solidarity. This movement has completely side-stepped caste and community. (Warning to the students: don’t allow cultural or social identity to destroy your solidarity).
The worst crime of elected officials is to use their authority to fill their pockets and to perpetuate their power by subverting state institutions: in a word, corruption and nepotism.
The stupidest politicians are those who mix ideological domination with corruption. Guess who is doing this

When the repression began Bangla sahab Gurudwara opened its doors. Several people stayed there, and received first aid, food and protection. A Masjid in the CP area helped with water for tear-gassed youngsters and have them refuge. there. Students going home from Lady Hardinge college were tear gassed. Cops fired gas shells into the compound of the college, and protesting groups were badly beaten. As of now scores of students are in hospital. The protest continues. These are a few You Tube reports of the happenings – our mainstream media having become a government propaganda machine. Those interested may easily find more reports.
And those wondering what the RSS vision of ‘Hindu Rashtra’ means, need only open their eyes to the events of the past decade. If that is too much, the events of July 20, 2026 should suffice. This is Hindu Rashtra: the perversion of state institutions, the looting of donations at the Ram Temple, the exclusion of lacs of voters from the voter’s list, the ideological domination of education, the repeated leaks of competitive examination question papers, the criminalisation of dissent, violent responses to democratic protest, the incitement of communal hatred, the targeting of religious minorities, the slanderous accusations of treachery and anti-nationalism hurled at critics of government policies, etc. This is it: the totalitarian domination of all aspects of life by an ideology – not by a religion, but by ideologues who claim to be the sole proprietors of a religion. Read more about it.
There are solidarity protests from all over India, and in Delhi, anonymous well wishers are sending bags of food and drink to the protest site via Blinkit and Swiggy and Zomato. Such is the beauty of human solidarity. Salaam
I salute the courageous young citizens of India; I salute Sonam Wangchuk. and ask all officials in police service and the IAS and judiciary to remember that they are servants of the Indian Constitution, not of the government of the day. The protestors are our own children, please don’t slander them – some of them may be members of your own families. And some may themselves be sitting for competitive examinations in the future. How would you feel if they were rigged?
May the souls of those young people who took their own lives rest in peace. The whole country should weep for them, not just their immediate families. God bless you all. Jai Hind. DS
